I spent $150 on a titanium BMX seat post, and apparently that was enough to send the entire 30+ BMX community on Facebook into a midlife engineering crisis.
According to the comment section, I've made a terrible financial decision because titanium is denser than aluminum. And they're right! Titanium IS heavier by volume. Congratulations, gentlemen. You've discovered the periodic table.
What they seem to forget is that titanium's strength allows for thinner tubing. This post uses beautiful, thin-wall tubing, whereas an aluminum post generally needs thicker walls to achieve comparable strength. It's almost like there's more to engineering than comparing two solid blocks of metal.
But here's the real kicker: I didn't spend $150 to win a NASA materials science competition. I spent $150 because it's titanium, it's beautifully made, and it looks absolutely badass on my bike.
I'm a grown man riding a 20-inch bicycle. Financial responsibility left the conversation a long time ago.
10/10. Would purchase again just to upset the Facebook group.
